Yamunotri, the first shrine of the Char Dham Yatra, is the sacred origin of Goddess Yamuna. Nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas, this destination offers a perfect blend of spiritual serenity, Himalayan trekking, and untouched natural beauty. The hot water springs of Surya Kund, the divine Yamunotri Temple, and the scenic trek make it a truly unique and exceptional destination.
History
Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, who is believed to be the daughter of the Sun God (Surya Dev) and the sister of Yama, the God of Death. According to Hindu mythology, taking a holy dip in the Yamuna River protects devotees from untimely death.
The original Yamunotri Temple was built by the Queen of Guleria, Jaipur, and later reconstructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri.
